I have known Dr. Peter Ramig for over twenty five years. During this
time he has earned a national reputation as an expert stuttering
therapist, demonstrating genuine concern and empathy for the clients
he treats. As a recovered person who stuttered, Dr. Ramig
understands the necessity for treating all aspects of this speech
disorder. This includes helping his clients alter their abnormal
speech behaviors, increasing fluency, and reducing the anxiety and
embarrassment commonly experienced by people who stutter. My highest
compliments go to my colleague Dr. Ramig, a truly great therapist.

Dr. Ramig and his
Associates have been a Godsend to our family. After seeing a speech
therapist in the Denver area claiming to be an expert fluency
therapist, but was unable to help our child after more than a year
of treatment, we sought out Dr. Ramig at the urging of several
therapists we contacted. He and his private practice therapists
changed our life. For the first time, I could ask questions about
stuttering research and receive factual answers from a person who
knew the topic and is a renowned national
and international authority on the topic of stuttering. After a year
of treatment, our son stuttered only occasionally with little effort
and reaction. Four years later, he is a member of a debate team and
earns all A grades in school. I can’t express enough how grateful we
are to have been referred to Dr. Ramig.

We have three sons,
ages 4, 6, and 9, that have a genetic predisposition toward
stuttering. Our children have all been in speech therapy with Dr.
Ramig and Associates for the past few years. I am continually
impressed with the support, encouragement, and enthusiasm of the
speech therapists. I am amazed with the accessibility of Dr. Peter
Ramig and the constant dialogue between he and his clinicians. The
creativity and overall understanding of how to keep our sons
motivated through the process is incredible. Our middle son no
longer needs therapy for his stuttering, but another two children
are continuing to be seen. I implicitly trust Dr. Ramig and his
associates with my children’s struggle to achieve their fluency
goals.

Our son, now 18, started stuttering when he was 3
years old. In elementary school his speech was evaluated and we were
told that he would grow out of it. So we waited...and waited while
his stuttering grew worse and he started becoming more withdrawn in
school. By the time he reached high school, we knew he needed help.
We tried to have him read aloud to us at home and though we saw some
improvement, it was only temporary. I began to do some research on
the internet. We chose Mr. Darrell Dodge because his philosophy
mirrored our own - treatment needs to deal
with speech fluency as well as the emotional self. Another reason we
came to him is because he stutters too. I can't tell you how many
times our son told us when we were trying to help, that we don't
understand because we don't stutter. Here was someone who could
reach our son on a level that we could not. For a year they worked
together and we now have a happy, confident, young man ready to
enter college. Thanks Mr. Dodge.

I am writing to express my deepest
appreciation for the presence of Mr. Darrell Dodge in our lives!
In March of 2005, I brought my daughter, Katy, to meet Darrell. Katy
had just turned 3 and had been having stuttering issues for quite
some time. We had been to another speech therapist, who we worked
with for about 6 weeks before she told us that our problem was
beyond the scope of her expertise. She referred us to the
“stuttering gurus”, Peter Ramig and Darrell Dodge, and I will always
be grateful. At the time, my daughter would sometimes get hung up on
the beginning sounds of a word for 30-45 seconds at a time and it
was extremely painful to watch her struggle. She was beginning to
get frustrated and I was getting very worried about the severity of
the issue and how it would impact her confidence and her social
development as she began pre-school and later, kindergarten.
Enter Darrell. With a calm, quiet demeanor and the patience of a
saint, he assessed Katy and began working with her twice per week.
Through games, pretend play, and hands-on activities, he modeled
“stretching” and reinforced Katy’s efforts. Although progress at
times seemed to be one step forward, two steps back, other times
would bring periods of a week or more with perfectly fluent speech.
All along Darrell was encouraging, supportive, and, more than
anything, patient as we progressed. Katy looked forward to her
sessions and after about 10 months, we dropped down to one time per
week.
We continued once a week for several months, then began once a
month, and are now, about 20 months after starting, essentially
stutter-free. While this is a bit of a disappointment to Katy as she
enjoyed her time with Darrell so much, I am obviously thrilled! Now
months after our last meeting, she continues to use strategies she
learned with Darrell when she comes across a word that is difficult—
I find this incredible.
Katy will start kindergarten in the fall and I will never be able to
thank Darrell enough for helping us to work through this speech
issue without having her self-esteem and confidence impacted. She is
a happy, creative, and talkative little girl! This means the world
to me.
I believe that Darrell Dodge is the most compassionate, qualified,
and dedicated person that I could have found to help Katy. I would
recommend him to anyone I know without hesitation. Thanks, Darrell!!
- Sincerely,
Jennifer Z.

My daughter Demi, now age 19, has a speech impediment and began
stuttering at the age of 5. It started out
being very mild, as I recall telling my husband, "she will grow out of it". As a result of us being naive on
the subject of stuttering we waited in
starting her treatments. At the age of 15
she asked if we could please find a specialist that might be
able to assist her with improving her speech. We interviewed several speech
pathologist and after much discussion, and the idea that Demi approved of Dr. Ramig
we initiated treatments. Dr. Ramig made my
husband and I very comfortable with
the process, but most important, he made Demi feel very in
tune to the idea of speech therapy. Dr. Ramig has been
a wonderful model and instructor
in Demi's therapy. The techniques
that he has taught her have proven to be very
successful. Several people are very
shocked when we inform them that Demi
has a stuttering problem. They can't believe it since Demi
uses her techniques that have been
implemented in her speech therapy sessions with
Dr. Ramig. Her fluency has further
advanced her articulation skills. She is a
very happy, and a well-adjusted teenager. She has performed in
many center stage plays. She has a
lot of confidence in herself. I feel that without her speech therapy, she might not have been so sure of
herself and excel as a talented vocalist.
I wish that I had started her
treatment at a much younger age, however I feel that we have enhanced her drive to exceed beyond her limits...

My speech therapy
with Dr. Peter Ramig was invaluable. His insight from personal
experience, and his years of training and research, resulted in a
therapy program that addressed my specific issues and gave me the
structure I needed to work on my speech techniques independent of
therapy. Doctor Ramig continues to be supportive, even after therapy
has been completed.

I stuttered for
years feeling ashamed, and having no self confidence. I went from
therapist to therapist in the Boulder and Denver area, with no
results.
When I was just about ready to give up on
looking for a good speech therapist, a friend told me about Dr.
Peter Ramig and Associates of Associated Stuttering Treatment
Clinics. I then called, and made an appointment within the same
week.
Dr. Ramig and
Associates taught me to stutter with ease, and less fear and
tension. As I progressed in treatment my stuttering got less and
less. I no longer feel ashamed, and I have developed self confidence
as I speak.
Now as a result
of treatment, my short term goal is to do some public reading, or a
little bit of acting. Thank you Dr. Ramig and Associates for making
a difference in my life.

When our daughter,
Amanda, was 3 ½ years old we started noticing some disfluencies in
her speech. A move to a new house and new baby within the same week
really caused her disfluencies to increase. A friend recommended Dr.
Peter Ramig and Associates. Amanda was categorized with severe
stuttering and Dr. Ramig called me himself. He told me there were no
spaces available, but because “Amanda is such a special little girl,
we will find room for her.” We started seeing one of his therapists
twice a week. Within three months we were down to twice a month and
we had our last appointment after only eight months. The compassion
and kindness along with the expertise we experienced at Dr. Peter
Ramig and Associates is unmatched. With their instruction our
daughter is no longer a stutterer!

When our son, Caleb,
was 3.5 years old we started to notice some disfluencies associated
with stuttering. This was most concerning to me, since he was
exhibiting a family trait that has negatively impacted family
members and one which I knew, if left untreated, could potentially
impact him in many ways including socially, emotionally and
physically.
After having Caleb’s
speech evaluated, and doing research to identify a speech
pathologist, I was referred to Dr. Peter Ramig’s practice. I was
quite amazed that after leaving a message for Dr. Ramig, he was
prompt in returning my call and did so himself. I was impressed then
and remain so today. Dr. Ramig and one of his associates met with
Caleb and evaluated his speech. After doing so, Caleb was accepted
into his practice in August of 2003.
Since initiating
his speech therapy, two (2) times per week initially, he has
progressed to once per month and the result has been stellar. Our
experience, and most importantly Caleb’s, with the practice has been
excellent. Dr. Ramig and his associate have been most accommodating
of the schedules of two working adults and a child who attends
school in southwest Denver, while always focusing on meeting the
needs of our endearing son.
I often watch
Caleb playing and communicating with his brother and other children,
and I am profusely thankful that our careers brought us to Colorado.
We have been most fortunate and quite blessed by being able to
leverage the caring ways and skills of Dr. Ramig and his associates.
They have been most kind to my son while incredibly successful in
addressing his stuttering.

Dr. Ramig's expert
knowledge of stuttering and stuttering
therapy, as well as his calm and peaceful demeanor, made for very effective therapy sessions. I
saw Dr. Ramig for over three years, while I was
attending the University of Colorado. He helped me be
more aware of my speech and patterns and he patiently
guided me in making improvements. Thank you, Peter!
